Admissions Policy

1.Summary

1) Basic Policy
 Health science is an academic field which considers a person’s overall existence, from the physical, mental and social viewpoint, explores human health, and contributes to the improvement of health and welfare. The basic policy of the Hirosaki University Graduate School of Health Sciences (Doctoral Course), is to contribute to the improvement of health and welfare of man by returning the achievements of education and research in the health science field to society, as well as advancing and developing this multidisciplinary academic field.
2) Educational goals
①Development of research ability
Human resources who can practice multidisciplinary research related to health science beyond the frame of expertise by exploring evidence, and who can transmit the results to the world, are trained.
②Training educators
Human resources who can contribute to the educational guidance at a university or graduate school, and who can practice health education based on scientific methodology are trained.
③Training instructors with a high level of specialized knowledge and skills.
Human resources with a high level of specialized knowledge and skills, who can identify and research issues as a team leader, and who can contribute to the clarification of such issues, are trained.
④Development of ability to promote regional healthcare activities
Human resources who can educate, instruct, and support persons taking the lead at regional healthcare activity sites, are trained.

2.Concept of the student

  • Students who maintain and enhance patient health, and who can promote original and academic research for the improvement of QOL (quality of life).
  • Students with high level expertise and ethics, and who can deepen and develop their own expertise.
  • Students who can “explore and collect evidence” which is essential to the practice and development of health science based on a scientific foundation.
  • Students who can develop interdisciplinary coordination and carry out cooperation and research beyond job type, in order to explore unexplained evidence of a problem.

3.Characteristics which should be cultivated before admission

  • Basic knowledge and methodology to search for theories and evidence based on high level specialized knowledge and skill.
  • Basic knowledge and methodology to develop practices in response to the theories and evidence, and new skills.
  • Basic knowledge and methodology to practice team medical care by coordinating with experts from various fields, and exercise leadership from a new viewpoint and strategy.

4.Basic policy of student selection

 To evaluate comprehensive academic ability and passion for research and eagerness, students are selected according the comprehensive results of a written test (English), and oral examination. (Documents for submission are the basic oral examination material.)

【Department of Nursing Science】

1.Summary
 Human resources who can deepen the wide field of nursing science and its specialized knowledge and ethics, advance original and interdisciplinary research autonomously as an instructor and researcher, maintain and enhance people’s health, and improve quality of life (QOL) based on a scientific foundation are trained.
2.Concept of the student
  • Students who can practice approaches in the maintenance and enhancement of health and improvement of QOL, based on high level specialized knowledge and skill.
  • Students who can play an active role as a leader in a health or medical team, by utilizing their specialized knowledge, education and research abilities.
  • Students who can autonomously carry out interdisciplinary research based on logical thinking, and can contribute to the development of nursing science.

【Department of Radiation Science】

1.Summary
 Human resources with new ideas and creative thinking ability unfettered by a specific field, who can pursue evidence regarding biological information and vital functions related human “life activities,” by utilizing scientific analysis methods in a complementary coordination and cooperation beyond the boundaries of job types are trained to address issues in today’s health care, as well as seeking to further deepen radiological technology as science.
2.Concept of the student
  • Students who aim to become an educator or researcher related to radiation science.
  • Students who aim to become a clinical researcher with high level specialized knowledge and skills.
  • Students with the desire to learn the knowledge and skills in advanced radiation science.

【Department of Bioscience and Laboratory Medicine】

1.Summary
 The purpose of this field is to train human resources who can understand life phenomena with a wide view from the molecular and cellular level to the body as a whole, and possess both originality and the ability act, in order to solve various problems in the wide ranged life science field. With the goal of developing such human resources, education and research related life functions, cause of disease and condition analysis are carried out based on the understanding of life phenomena at the molecular level.
2.Concept of the student
  • Students who are eager to become one who can provide education and research guidance at a university or graduate school which provides education related bioscience and laboratory medicine.
  • Students with the ability to act with a high sense of ethics and high level specialized knowledge at a health or medical site.
  • Students who can identify challenges from a stance of guidance and expertise, and carry out self-reliant research from an international viewpoint.

【Department of Comprehensive Rehabilitation Science】

1.Summary
 Human resources who can deepen the wide field of rehabilitation science achievement and its specialized knowledge and ethics based on physical therapy and occupational therapy, and who can “search and collect evidence” which is essential in the practice and development of rehabilitation (Evidenced Based Rehabilitation) based on a scientific foundation, are trained for the maintenance and enhancement people’s health, to prevent or reduce motor and mental disorders, and improve (QOL).
2.Concept of the student
  • Students who can play active roles as a leader in a health or medical team by utilizing specialized knowledge and their education and research abilities, in order to maintain and enhance health and improve QOL, and based on high level specialized knowledge and skills in the rehabilitation science field.
  • Students who can autonomously carry out interdisciplinary research based on ideas outside the box, possess logical thinking, and who can contribute to the development of nursing science.
