　Since its foundation in October 2007, the Hirosaki University School of Health Sciences continues to expand its role while achieving higher levels of results. The Master’s Course in Health Sciences was opened for enrollment in April 2005 under the Hirosaki University Graduate School of Medicine, and upon the establishment of its Doctoral Course in April 2007, became an independent faculty named the Graduate School of Health Sciences. Such evolution is a reflection of issues related to the emergence of an aging society with fewer children in Japan, which has created urgent needs to foster health professional students and establish foundations for education and research. Meanwhile, segmentation and amalgamation continue to take place in health science and medicine, as one can see in the advancement of gene therapy and regenerative medicine. As advances are made in treatment of lifestyle-related diseases and establishment of home nursing care services, there are greater expectations focused on quality of life.

The Hirosaki University School of Health Sciences consists of five major programs: nursing, radiation technology, clinical laboratory technology, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, and holds an important role as one of our university’s five faculties . Our aim is to contribute to society by developing students into health science professionals. With an excellent learning environment combining the School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and University Hospital in the same campus, our students will gain a broad educational foundation, master specialized knowledge and skills, and achieve the awareness and attitude expected of a health care professional capable of contributing to society.
